I wrote a lot of this article purely from a lesson learning from the Marketing aspects of the Dreamcast, which I typed before the release of Sonic in the film with Jim Carrey. As a kid like others, we enjoyed carefully drawing Sonic which meant any movie rendering would most likely have to pass the hardest critics, the fans who know just where the spikes go. Sonic just slightly second to Link was probably the character we felt we drew the most at school, It meant as some of the hardest critics we knew the nose to the eye, hand to feet ratio just purely from fanart recreations.
Upon hearing about delays in release and rumours of re-dos on the look of the movie version of the Sonic rendering, I did hope this movie was pointing in the right direction, listening to supporters and moving from what was described as an overly human Sonic especially his teeth. We hoped the movie would prove successful like the other game iteration Detective Pikachu. Finding the secret ingredient in a movie adaptation does appear harder than many anticipate. I am recalling big-budget films e.g. Super Mario Bros and Street Fighter as some unfortunate flops. Does the replacement of an iconic game character with a humans result in a lower probability of movie success?
